Condoleanceregister Hedwig Waltmans-Molier
Aan het einde van de middag van dinsdag 4 augustus werd Beiroet opgeschrikt door een enorme explosie. Onze collega Hedwig Waltmans-Molier is hierbij zwaar gewond geraakt. Op zaterdag 8 augustus is ze bezweken aan haar verwondingen.
Hedwig is 55 jaar oud geworden en laat haar echtgenoot Jan en hun twee kinderen achter. Zij werkte sinds 1994 bij Buitenlandse Zaken, waar zij diverse staffuncties op het ministerie in Den Haag bekleedde.
Ook werkte zij vele jaren in het buitenland, onder meer op de ambassades in Dhaka, Lusaka en Khartoem.
Laatstelijk was zij HR-partner op de personeelsafdeling van het ministerie en werkte ze afwisselend in Den Haag en Beiroet, waar haar man de Nederlandse ambassadeur is.

Het condoleanceregister voor Hedwig Waltmans-Molier is gesloten. Het ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken dankt ieder voor de oprechte blijken van medeleven. De reacties zullen aan de nabestaanden worden overhandigd.

I send you my deepest and most heartfelt condolences on the tragic loss of Hedwig. I can only imagine your sorrow and despair that she was in the wrong place at the moment of the blast.
I got to know Hedwig on the Lebanon Mountain Trail hike in October. We became very good friends along with Lieza Brusse. Our small group was mostly from Canada and perhaps the fact that my wife is from the Netherlands made me appreciate and relate to Hedwig so easily. I told my wife about her on my return and she felt she too knew Hedwig in some way.
Hedwig was kind and a woman of great grace. She was athletic, outdoorsy and a good sport on the country trail. When she showed us her city of Beirut after the hike, she was urban and cosmopolitan and proud of her new city and her life there. She was clearly a woman of many dimensions with a broad range of interests and talents.
For you as husband and children of this fine woman, I express my sorrow and hope you will find strength to endure her loss and ways to keep her memory always alive. -
