Condoleanceregister Hedwig Waltmans-Molier
Aan het einde van de middag van dinsdag 4 augustus werd Beiroet opgeschrikt door een enorme explosie. Onze collega Hedwig Waltmans-Molier is hierbij zwaar gewond geraakt. Op zaterdag 8 augustus is ze bezweken aan haar verwondingen.
Hedwig is 55 jaar oud geworden en laat haar echtgenoot Jan en hun twee kinderen achter. Zij werkte sinds 1994 bij Buitenlandse Zaken, waar zij diverse staffuncties op het ministerie in Den Haag bekleedde.
Ook werkte zij vele jaren in het buitenland, onder meer op de ambassades in Dhaka, Lusaka en Khartoem.
Laatstelijk was zij HR-partner op de personeelsafdeling van het ministerie en werkte ze afwisselend in Den Haag en Beiroet, waar haar man de Nederlandse ambassadeur is.

Het condoleanceregister voor Hedwig Waltmans-Molier is gesloten. Het ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken dankt ieder voor de oprechte blijken van medeleven. De reacties zullen aan de nabestaanden worden overhandigd.

I am so sorry to hear of the death of the Dutch Ambassador’s wife, Hedwig Waltmans-Molier.
Along with the rest of the world, I saw the media coverage of the massive Beirut explosion and fire ball, and shuddered to think of anyone caught up in it.
Today I learned of Hedwig’s passing away, from her wounds. It shocked me as I have Dutch heritage, an aunt with the same name, and I also was once in the Australian Foreign Affairs department.
I send condolences and pray that photos and memories will sustain the family during this difficult time, and beyond.

It is very sad to know that the explosion in Beirut hit many nationalities, this is a sad news for humanity and a message to the world that corruption effects can be very huge and lead to many victims and damages.

Four years ago, I was extremely lucky to earn a scholarship for a master's degree in the Netherlands, a country which I fall in love with, I learned a lot from, and I owe a lot. My apology for the late reply. I was injured during the blast. I heard about your loss on the news. It is such a tragedy. Please accept the deepest condolences to you, the family, and friends.
