It is such a pleasure to contribute to this King’s Day special. Surely, I had wished so much to be able to welcome you personally at our annual event, meeting you face-to-face, enjoying the Dutch ‘bitterballen’ and saying cheers to our King. However again this year, due to the pandemic, we will celebrate King’s Day differently.

King’s Day is about celebrating, but also about expressing our gratitude to those people who have contributed to society. In the Netherlands, every year some of these remarkable people are awarded a special decoration by His Majesty the King, the so called ‘lintje’. In line with this honorable tradition, we have, as an Embassy, highlighted and thanked a few people who have contributed to both Singapore and the Netherlands. In a number of videos, we showcase (and sometimes surprise) these extraordinary people and their impressive contributions, featuring the strong relationship between the two countries. The videos are shared on our website and social media channels.

For this special King’s Day, I genuinely wish that everybody has a chance to celebrate; the King’s birthday, but I also wish for you that you are able to celebrate your good health. Like we say in Dutch when we bring a toast: “Op je gezondheid!” To your good health! Now more relevant than ever. Next King’s Day, I hope to welcome you again, in person and in good health.

KING's NIGHT 2021

On Friday April 30, ADB-DutchCham together with the Dutch Drinks Community, will bring together over 220 guests in 24 houses in celebration of our King Willem-Alexander’s birthday.

We will provide everybody with  drinks, ‘bitterballen’, orange decorations and a DJ, so you’ll be hearing a lot of ‘Oranje Boven’ tunes in Singapore. We wish all those people with orange hearts a fantastic evening.

The royal family visits Eindhoven

On King's Day 2021, the royal family will visit the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven. King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima and the princesses Amalia, Alexia and Ariane will be welcomed by the municipality of Eindhoven in a studio, where a large part of the King's Day program will take place.

In this studio, the Royal family will have conversations with designers, they will prepare a meal in an innovative way, and they will look back at the special ways of meeting each other during Covid time. They will also reflect on how Eindhoven has become such a modern high-tech city.

The program contains an active part as well! From Urban to E-sports, and with a technical experiment ASML will show you something special with a vacuum cleaner. And prepare for a lot of music and a spectacular conclusion!
